[SSS05-05] Real-Time Seismic Data Processing and Monitoring at CWA: Current Status and Future Directions

This study examines the earthquake monitoring system of the Central Weather Administration (CWA) in Taiwan, focusing on real-time data integration, display systems, and earthquake catalog enhancements.The real-time seismic data (RSD) system provides high-density, high-coverage waveform data by integrating various seismometers and exchanging data with monitoring agencies. It employs Earthworm and SeisComP software—Earthworm processes raw data and supports multiple formats, while SeisComP manages data acquisition, archiving, quality control, and event analysis. CWA operates 632 real-time seismic stations, including strong motion accelerometers, broadband, and short-period seismometers, deployed across multiple locations. The RSD system has a two-layer structure: Layer-1 gathers field data, and Layer-2 integrates it for earthquake early warning (EEW) and real-time displacement (RTD) monitoring, supported by Grafana. The earthquake monitoring display system visualizes seismic intensity, epicenter location, alerts, and system performance. Using open-source tools like Grafana and SeisComP, it enables real-time assessment of earthquake activity. Grafana provides interactive dashboards, while SeisComP supports waveform displays and event analysis. CWA continually improves its monitoring system through enhanced data integration, display systems, and catalog refinement. Earthworm and SeisComP remain core data tools, with Grafana for visualization. Future efforts will focus on refining data processing and optimizing system interfaces for greater efficiency.
