This study investigates the effects of radio frequency interference (RFI) and spoofing on high precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) performance, using a Trimble DA2 GNSS receiver with Trimble Catalyst precise point positioning (PPP) service. The findings show that while the GNSS receiver can maintain performance under mild RFI conditions, interference in the L1 and G1 bands leads to significant degradation in positioning accuracy, especially under high interference levels. Furthermore, the study demonstrates the vulnerabilities of GNSS systems to simplistic spoofing attacks, whereby even if spoofing does not occur, it still causes disruption of positioning accuracy and even complete loss of position fix. The findings underscore the need for robust interference mitigation and anti-spoofing measures to safeguard GNSS performance in high-stakes applications such as critical infrastructure and autonomous navigation.
