[U15-P07] How is the Geopark concept illustrated?

*DAICHI KOHMOTO1 (1.Nara University of Education)

Keywords:geopark, concept, Earth Science, network, UNESCO

The presenter summarized issues regarding diagrams expressing the concept of Geoparks in 2020, and examined how they are illustrated in academic papers and websites of Geoparks and other organizations in foreign and domestic countries. This presentation will include the results of the resent studies. In academic papers from overseas, there is a tendency to illustrate the character of Geoparks as the intersection of various concepts and activities, and the process of improving regions and societies through Geoparks. In Japan, a pyramid chart was previously widely used to illustrate what “geo” means. However, there are many Geoparks both in Japan and around the world that avoid illustrating the concept and only introduce the UNESCO definition of a Geopark in writing. Charting the concept helps the viewer's understanding. It is important to introduce and brush up each other's efforts to promote accurate understanding of the Geopark concept in the world and in Japan.
