[A-OS27] Coastal ocean circulation and material cycle

Mon. May 25, 2026 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM Poster Hall (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)

In the coastal region, which is highly susceptible to human activities and involves complex ocean phenomena, understanding oceanic circulation and material cycles, as well as developing strategies to address environmental changes, is a key issue. For example, various physical processes - such as seawater exchange with the open ocean in regions like the Kuroshio, freshwater discharge from rivers, tidal currents, and associated internal waves, eddies, and turbulent mixing - play essential roles in coastal ocean circulation. Nutrient input from land and the open ocean, along with ocean phenomena related to human activities - such as red tides, oxygen - deficient water masses, and marine pollution - significantly impacts the coastal marine environment. In recent years, the effects of global climate change - particularly ocean warming and acidification-on coastal regions have been gaining attention. Here, we propose an interdisciplinary session on coastal circulation and material cycles.
