[P-CG23] Planetary Seismology

Sun. May 24, 2026 1:45 PM - 3:15 PM 303 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

Chairperson:Onodera Keisuke(Institute for Planetary Materials, Okayama University), Turner R Alice(University of Cambridge)

Exploring planetary interiors is crucial for understanding planetary dynamics and evolution, and seismology has played a central role in the past half-century. Since the first lunar seismic observations during the Apollo missions (1969-1977), seismology has been extended to other planetary bodies, including Mars and even a comet. Today, we are entering a renewed golden age of planetary seismology, marked by InSight (Mars: 2018-2022), followed by Chandrayaan-3 (Moon: 2023), with upcoming missions such as Chang's-7 (Moon: 2026), Lunar Environmental Monitoring Station (Moon: 2026), Farside Seismic Suite (Moon: 2027), and Dragonfly (Titan: 2023s). In this context, this session aims to share the latest scientific progress in planetary seismology with the Earth and planetary science community and promote future seismic investigations. We invite contributions spanning the full scope of planetary seismology from seismic sources, wave propagations, interior structures, laboratory-scale experiments, to even planetary analog studies under extreme terrestrial conditions with relevance to extraterrestrial applications.
