The Japan is a tectonically active zone located at a plate boundary, where numerous volcanoes and fault activity are closely interrelated. Volcanic activity is strongly governed by magma supply systems and regional stress fields, while post-eruption ground deformation and topography formation are also influenced by active tectonics. This session will discuss the relationship between geological processes and applied geological issues in the active tectonic belt at the plate boundary, from multidisciplinary perspectives including volcanic geology, structural geology, geophysics, geochemistry, and applied geology.
Specifically, topics in this session include the spatial and temporal relationship between active structures and volcanic activity; structural constraints on magma supply systems; subsurface imaging in active tectonic belts through gravity/seismic surveys; the impact of geological structures in active tectonic belts (including volcanic regions) on disaster prevention and construction projects; and volcanic hazard risk assessment.
Understanding the geological structures within active tectonic belts is a critical task, directly linked not only to advancing earth science but also to disaster prevention and mitigation. This session aims to foster the sharing of interdisciplinary insights and the creation of new research collaborations.
