[S-VC38] Natural Hazards and Disaster Risk related to Volcanoes and volcanic activity

Thu. May 28, 2026 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM 106 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

Chairperson:Gomez A Christopher(Kobe University Faculty of Maritime Sciences Volcanic Risk at Sea Research Group), Daikai Rikuto(Kobe university graduate school of maritime sciences Volcanic Risk at Sea Research Group), Takarada Shinji(Geological Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology)

Hazards and Disaster Risk related to volcanoes (on volcanoes, triggered by volcanoes, but away from volcanoes, and related to other processes, but occurring on volcanoes) are numerous, and often pose serious threats to population living on volcanic flanks, attracted by fertile land, or constrained due to the lack of space, or a long tradition of living on the volcano. If you work on sector collapses, pyroclastic flows, lahars, volcanic landslides, the impacts of volcanoes on surrounding land, volcanoes and climate change, communities on volcanoes, practices and culture of volcanoes related to disaster risk... this session is for you.
