Fri. May 29, 2026 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM Poster Hall (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)
The purpose of this interdisciplinary session is to discuss how human intervention has been affecting natural resources and the environment, and how changes in natural resources and the environment have been affecting human societies, from both the perspectives of earth and social sciences. Contributions are welcomed from a broad spectrum of research themes and approaches, including new knowledge from fieldwork in diverse socio-economic and natural settings as well as reviews that assemble existing knowledge to seek new horizons for research and theory development.
Themes include, but are not limited to:
1)New knowledge on human use of natural resources and environment, and locally inherited experience on sustainable use;
2)Human impacts on change or degradation of natural resources and environment (e.g., environmental history, environmental geography);
3)Impacts of global climate change on resource and environmental change or degradation;
4)Proper management and conservation of natural resources and environment;
5)Socio-economic changes, livelihood security, and political ecology as drivers of resource and environmental change or degradation;
6)Climate intervention for both mitigation and adaptation, such as geoengineering;
7)Bridging spatial and temporal gaps in linking local, regional, and global issues; and
8)"Resilience and sustainability" to changes in natural resources, environment and disasters.
Authors are encouraged to facilitate dialogues between earth and social sciences through their presentations. The session will ensure time for discussion between authors and the audience.
