[S-SS08] Listening to the Living Earth: Seismological Perspectives on Environmental Processes

Wed. May 27, 2026 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM Poster Hall (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)

Seismology offers means of probing into the Earth's interior across spatiotemporal scales. Recent advancements in instrumentation and processing have enabled analysis of signals generated by all kinds of natural events apart from earthquakes. This has enabled understanding of environmental processes and their precursory signatures ranging from large mass movement events such as avalanches, glacier slips, landslides, etc. to ambient processes such as groundwater dynamics, geothermal activity, etc. In this session we invite exciting contributions from study of such environmental processes and its application in probable hazard mitigation using micro-tremors, ambient wavefields, active and anthropogenic sources. seismic and acoustic signals from oceans, rivers, and the atmosphere that may shed light on the environmental, geophysical, and biogenic processes such as storms, ocean waves, and marine life activity are also encouraged.
