Urban areas concentrate populations, infrastructure, and economic activities, making them increasingly vulnerable to various natural hazards such as earthquakes, heavy rainfall, and land subsidence. The importance of integrated disaster risk management based on urban engineering geology has therefore become greater than ever. This session aims to share the latest developments in the investigation, evaluation, and monitoring of urban subsurface geology and their applications to disaster prevention and risk management. We invite contributions that promote interdisciplinary collaboration among geology, geotechnical engineering, geophysics, disaster science, urban planning, and data science toward achieving sustainable and resilient cities. The session will also explore emerging approaches, such as digital-twin-based hazard assessment, integrated geodata management, and adaptation strategies for ground-related disasters under climate change. Through discussions among academia, government, industry, and communities, we seek to redefine the role of urban engineering geology and envision a safer and more sustainable society.
