[A-CG51] Water and Sediment Dynamics from Terrestrial to Coastal Regions [En]

Tue. May 26, 2026 10:45 AM - 12:15 PM 105 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

Chairperson:Udo Keiko(Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Tohoku University), Chiu Chen-Wei(Ecohydrology Research Institute, The University of Tokyo Forests), Kida Shinichiro(Research Institute for Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University), Bamunawala Janaka(Tohoku University), Sehgal Dhruv(Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo)

The transfer of water, sediments, and associated contaminants from land to oceans plays a crucial role in shaping catchment, estuarine, and coastal ecosystems. Those dynamics directly impact water quality, habitat conditions, and biogeochemical cycles at multiple spatial and temporal scales and are affected by various complex, non linear and interconnected processes, such as hillslope runoff, river flow and flooding, sediment transport, geomorphology, and coastal river plumes. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of water and sediment dynamics across hillslopes, floodplains, river mouths, and coastal zones is essential for the sustainable management of those unique systems, which are of great importance to society. This session aims to highlight studies focused on the dynamics of water and sediments from catchments to the oceans, examining sources, transport pathways, storage, remobilization, and travel times of water, sediments, and contaminants. We welcome contributions using theoretical, observational, or simulation based approaches, including basic process studies, in situ and remote sensing observations, big data analysis, and supercomputing, to enhance our understanding of these dynamics.
