[H-GG03] Re-considering Regional Geography

Mon. May 25, 2026 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM Poster Hall (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)

Talking of Regional Geography (RG), we glimpse the world of "pre-" scientific scholarship. This "pre-" refers, of course, to the chorology that declined in the 19th century, or at the latest, the mid-20th century. This comprehensive, descriptive geography was considered a discipline "before" the scientificization of academia. However, in parallel, for those who encounter a region on the field and conduct research there, there must be something we must do "pre-" scientific manipulation and analysis.
In this session, rather than opposing specialisation and scientificization, we would like to confirm the existence of an academic field that forms the premise and foundation of such specialisation through a discussion of "RG" and seek clues for its reconstruction.
Specifically, we would like to bring together the following topics and themes to deepen the discussion:
# Reconsidering RG - Principles
# RG Research - Case Studies
# RG-tic Translation of Previous Research
# Jointness in Collaborative Research
# Fieldwork as an RG Methodology
# RG and Education (or Learning)
