Thu. May 28, 2026 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Exhibition Hall Special Setting (3) (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)
Chairperson:Jamieson William John(University of Ottawa), Martin Jonathan Andrew(University of Nevada, Las Vegas), Seo Jung Hun(School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Seoul National University)
The main targets of this session are seafloor mineral resources such as seafloor hydrothermal deposits, ferromanganese nodules, ferromanganese crusts and rare-earth element-rich muds, as well as their natural analogues on land such as volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits, and stratiform and stratabound manganese and ferromanganese (umber) deposits. Any researches focusing on the geology, geochemistry, geophysics, microbiology, metallogenesis and enrichment mechanisms of targeted elements, laboratory experiments and method development, modeling of ore forming processes, environmental impact assessments, mine drainage treatment and environmental remediation, introductions of recent field investigation and research cruises are highly welcome. Since this session is restricted to JpGU-AGU 2026 (possibly continued to Goldschmidt 2028 in Tokyo), we expect this session to facilitate vigorous multidisciplinary discussion and academic exchange beyond the research fields, which are impossible at only one academic society.
