[M-IS12] Planetary Volcanology

Volcanoes exist on solid planetary surfaces across the solar system. They inform us about volcanism itself, tectonic/internal activity, the surface environment in which they were formed, and their subsequent evolution. Recent high-resolution remote sensing data on extraterrestrial bodies allows us to analyze outcrop scales. Now, we are poised to share the research targets that extend beyond general volcanology and planetary science. Because some geomorphological and geological environments on other planets are similar to those on Earth, research on volcanic geomorphology and geology on Earth provides suitable terrestrial analogs for understanding planetary volcanology. This session discusses the formation history and mechanism of volcanoes across the solar system.
