Sun. May 24, 2026 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM 301B (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)
Chairperson:Maruishi Takafumi(National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience), Katsuragi Hiroaki(Department of Earth and Space Science, Osaka University)
This session aims to join people from various research areas in the earth and planetary sciences and to stimulate discussion beyond the boundaries of each research area. Our goal is to deepen our understanding of dynamics in geosciences by looking over whole areas in the earth and planetary sciences from the viewpoint of PHYSICS OF DEFORMATION, FLOW, AND FRACTURE. We welcome any field (e.g., earthquake, volcano, earth surface, crust, mantle and the core, and other planets and satellites) and any approach (e.g., laboratory experiments, numerical simulations, field observations, and theories). Oral presentations in Japanese will also be accepted. Using one's first language has been shown to reduce cognitive load and support deeper, faster, and more precise discussion (Takano and Noda, 1993; Shinozuka et al., 2021), and provides students and early-career researchers with a valuable step toward preparing for international presentations (Kakitani and Kormos, 2024; Liu et al., 2021). Slides and posters must be prepared in English (Japanese translation optional), and English presentations are welcome so that non-Japanese participants can follow and join the discussion.
