Legacy and emerging contaminant pollution continues to be a significant environmental and public health concern. Processes of legacy and emerging contaminant fate and transport, and biotic uptake still have critical knowledge gaps. The goal of this session is to highlight recent scientific advances in legacy (heavy metals, POPS) and emerging contaminants (PFAS-PFOA compounds, microplastics) biogeosciences and impacts. Abstracts will be considered on a variety of topics including environmental cycling, exposure dynamics, toxicological impacts, bioaccumulation kinetics, and trophic transfer, etc. We encourage presentations to be submitted from a wide array of ecosystems including the atmosphere, and terrestrial, freshwater, and marine environments. Papers that consider the role of climate change, human health impacts, temporal trends, ecosystem recovery, source apportionment, food web dynamics, impacts on biodiversity, and biotic and abiotic controls on legacy and emerging contaminant cycling are strongly encouraged.
