[G-02] Outreach of Geoscience: Practice and Theory

Sun. May 24, 2026 10:45 AM - 12:15 PM 303 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

Chairperson:Terazono Junya(Moon and Planets LLC), Tamazawa Harufumi(Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo), Hoshimi Madoka(National Astronomical Observatory of Japan), Tsukada Ken(Hiratsuka City Museum)

In Japan, the 7th Science, Technology and Innovation Basic Plan is scheduled for release in 2026, and discussions as of 2025 continue to address education and science communication, as they did in the 6th plan. Furthermore, discussions on the next curriculum guidelines have expanded to individual subjects, rapidly changing both formal and informal educational environments. Influenced by international circumstances, science education and outreach activities in Japan are also at a turning point, with the sites and actors involved diversifying. This session will address knowledge dissemination related to Earth and planetary sciences by a wide range of actors, including educational and research institutions, academic societies, local governments, NPOs, companies, and individuals, providing a forum for information sharing and collaboration. We welcome a wide range of presentations, including practical examples from each field, strategies for developing these activities, and research on outreach and public relations, including theoretical development and practical analysis. A concentration of related international conferences will be held in Japan in 2026, including JpGU-AGU, IPS, AOGS, and IAUS409, and we hope that this session will be used as the opening for these conferences. For this reason, although this is a J-Session, we actively welcome presentations in English.
