The "Future Academic Advancement Initiative" (a minor revision of the 2023 edition to the 2026 edition is currently underway), which outlines the future vision for Japan's academic community as a whole, was proposed and published by the Science Council of Japan (SCJ) following a public solicitation, review, and analysis of 'Visions' and "Mid-to-Long-Term Strategies for Academic Research." The Committee on Earth and Planetary Sciences in SCJ, in collaboration with JpGU, has compiled proposals solicited from the Earth and Planetary Sciences field. It has also established and reported the "Science and Dream Roadmap 2020 for Earth and Planetary Sciences," which provides the basis for reviewing those proposals and grouping them into a medium-to-long-term strategy as Grand Visions. Over six years have passed since the previous Dream Roadmap report. Japan's Earth and planetary sciences and the circumstances surrounding them have changed. Furthermore, as the public solicitation for the major revision of the Future Academic Promotion Plan is expected to begin in the not-too-distant future, work is currently underway to revise the Earth and Planetary Sciences Dream Roadmap. This session aims to share the details of this revision and discuss how to improve it for the advancement of Earth and planetary sciences.
