[M-GI31] Advancing pre-disaster measures for large earthquakes: Integrating science and society

2026年5月29日(金) 17:15 〜 19:00 ポスター会場 (幕張メッセ国際展示場 7・8ホール)

Integrating natural and social sciences to accelerate pre-disaster measures against large earthquakes will strengthen resilience by protecting lives, reducing damage, sustaining society, and enabling rapid recovery. In Japan, key priorities include utilizing data from the new N-net seafloor observation system, refining three-dimensional seismic-velocity models, improving hypocenter determination in the Nankai Trough source region, and extending these efforts to regions such as Hokkaido and Sanriku. It is also essential to develop methods for evaluating slow slip events and constructing possible scenarios to support realistic earthquake disaster planning. As society faces increasingly complex cascading hazards caused by earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, and liquefaction, traditional measures are no longer sufficient. Greater emphasis is needed on advanced risk information and redefining resilience from emergency response to recovery. This session provides a platform to discuss research efforts from around the world that aim to accelerate pre-disaster measures against earthquake hazards. In particular, we welcome presentations on initiatives that integrate insights from the natural sciences, engineering, informatics, and the humanities and social sciences, as well as those that promote the use of digital technologies and the strengthening of community-based disaster preparedness.
