[S-EM17] Geomagnetism, Paleomagnetism and Rock Magnetism

Thu. May 28, 2026 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM Exhibition Hall Special Setting (7) (Exhibition Hall 7&8, Makuhari Messe)

Chairperson:Asari Seiki(Kakioka Magnetic Observatory, Japan Meteorological Agency), Ahn Hyeon-Seon(Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources), Mochizuki Nobutatsu(Department of Earth and Environmental Science, Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, Kumamoto University)

The remarkable progress in Earth Sciences today owes much to our understanding of Earth's magnetic field. This session invites contributions on the latest advances in geomagnetism, paleomagnetism, rock magnetism, and their wide-ranging applications to geophysical and geological problems. We welcome presentations on topics such as the geodynamo, present and ancient geomagnetic field behavior, fundamental rock magnetic properties, paleogeography including tectonic processes, and insights into paleoclimate. In addition, we encourage submissions related to satellite- and ground-based magnetic field observations, studies of lunar and planetary magnetism, and magnetic investigations of meteorites, which are new windows into planetary evolution and solar system history. We also welcome innovative methodologies, software tools, and instrumentation that support and expand these research frontiers. Through this session, we aim to foster forward-looking discussions that will inspire future breakthroughs in magnetism-related Earth and planetary sciences. We encourage contributions that stimulate interdisciplinary collaborations toward establishing the SEDI-Japan community.
