[A-OS24] Marine microbial ecology

Thu. May 28, 2026 1:45 PM - 3:15 PM 102 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

Chairperson:Maiko Kagami(Yokohama National University), Hoshino Tatsuhiko(Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology)

Marine microorganisms play crucial roles in biogeochemical cycles such as carbon and nitrogen cycling, which originate from primary production, and are indispensable for sustaining ecosystem functions on a global scale. Understanding the diverse biological processes mediated by microorganisms, including organic matter decomposition, nitrogen fixation, and light energy utilization, is essential for comprehending marine environments and predicting climate change. This session invites a wide range of studies focusing on the diversity, functions, and dynamic interactions of marine microorganisms with their surrounding environments. In this session, presentation slides are required to be in English, and oral presentations in English are highly encouraged; however, oral presentations in Japanese will also be accepted. Previous studies have shown that presenting in one's native language can reduce cognitive load and promote deeper discussions (Takano & Noda, 1993; Shinozuka et al., 2021). For early-career researchers, this approach also provides an effective opportunity to enhance understanding of their own research while preparing for future international presentations (Kakitani & Kormos, 2024; Liu et al., 2021). By allowing both English and Japanese oral presentations with English slides, this session aims to foster constructive scientific discussions and mutual understanding among domestic and international researchers.
