Anthropogenic environmental change is expected to cause global scale ocean changes, including future sea level rise, ocean acidification, ocean deoxygenation, ocean oligotrophication and resultant large scale changes in ecosystems. Tackling those problems requires an integrated approach combining physics, chemistry and biology of the ocean. Furthermore, interaction of the ocean with the atmosphere is the key for investigating impacts of changes in sea surface temperature and sea ice distribution. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s special report "Climate change and oceans and the cryosphere", due in 2019, will address these issues with an interdisciplinary perspective. Interactions and collaborations beyond boundaries in conventional oceanographic disciplines are essential for dealing with the issue of global changes of the ocean. This session thus aims to contribute to promoting interdisciplinary researches by having presentations and discussion on the latest studies.
