After the gigantic tsunamis caused by the 2004 Mw 9.1 Sumatra earthquake and the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku earthquake, great efforts in the world have been made to mitigate tsunami disasters in a wide range of research fields: observatory development, progress of theory, investigation of source mechanism, real-time forecasting, nearshore hydrodynamics, rapid damage assessment, evacuation planning, preparedness, resilience and so on. Topics of interest in this session are not only these, but also other researches related to tsunami disaster mitigation.
