[S-CG69] [EE] Near Surface Investigation and modeling for Fault Assessment and Hazard Mitigations

Wed. May 24, 2017 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM A08 (Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall)

convener:Ping-Yu Chang(National Central University), Simon Wallis(Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Nagoya University), Yasufumi Iryu(Institute of Geology and Paleontology Graduate School of Science Tohoku University), Chairperson:Simon Wallis(Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Nagoya University), Chairperson:Ping-Yu Chang(National Central University, Taiwan)

In the tectonically active region, it is crucial to identify the locations of faults and construct the seismic hazard models before the earthquake happen. For the purpose, a serious of near surface investigation, including the trenching, boreholes, as well as the geophysical methods are used to evaluate the fault locations, orientations, and the geology of the seismic prone areas. With these data researchers build the seismic hazard models to provide better information for hazard mitigation. This proposed session focuses on issues of near surface fault investigation and seismic hazard modeling. This session welcomes studies related to numerical modeling and field investigations. Traditional field observations, trenching and borehole approaches, geophysical approaches, and modeling approaches regarding the near surface structures are welcome. We especially encourage interdisciplinary studies that apply state of the art of geology, geophysics and modeling approaches.
