[Abstract]
[Introduction]
Maxillofacial defects may cause severe emotional trauma in terms of facial aesthetics and social acceptance to the patient. Trauma resection, congenital malformations, inflammation and burn injuries are the common causes of auricular defects.1 The use of various retentive aids along with three-dimensional imaging technologies provide patients with better aesthetics, improved retention, accuracy and stability.2
[Case Summary and Treatment Details]
In this case series, auricular defect is managed prosthetically using various retentive aids and different techniques to attain the desired outcome and patient satisfaction.3 Patient consent was obtained for presentation of these cases.
[Progress and Discussion]
Compared to the invasive surgical reconstruction which may have unpredictable results, various anatomical and mechanical retained auricular prosthesis provide several advantages like maintenance of marginal integrity, consistent retention, positioning, longevity, convenience and elimination of the need for adhesives.4 A good quality of life does not stem from treating the problem but helping the patients to recognise that life is beyond the defect.5
