[Abstract]
Objective
Since 2013, the prevalence of tooth loss among adults in rural areas has not been studied in Mongolia. Therefore, our goal of the survey was to determine the level of tooth loss and denture status among rural population of Mongolia. 1
Materials and Methods
A total 444 subjects over 18 years old were examined from target provinces and their partial edentulous condition and denture status were determined.2
Results and Discussion
The prevalence of partial edentulous level in total subjects was 92.34% (n=410), and partial edentulous level was high 98.3% among over the 34 year-old people. The incidence of Kennedy's classification in both arches was 38.2% (n=251); Class III was 31.81% (n=209), and Class II was 28.61% (n=188), respectively. Class IV was 1.36% (n=9) in both dental arches (p< 0.001). In the maxillary dental arch, Class I, II represented as higher in 45-74 age group (141), and in the 18-34 age group were lower (69) (p<0.01). In the mandibular arch, the Class I was higher (150) in the 45-74 age group (p<***).The present study showed 49.02% of 410 subjects needed prosthetic dentures, 51% of people had dentures; wearing a removable denture was 97.13%, and fixed dentures were 2.8%. The distribution of different types of prosthesis shows flexible denture (24.87%), acrylic denture (23.17%) in a higher percentage than removable cast dentures (1.46%), bridges (0.48%) and implants (0.97%).The level and pattern of partial edentulism among adults in rural area were high, and the level and pattern of tooth loss were significantly associated with age groups. Findings are also being considered in oral health promotion strategies designed to reduce tooth loss in Mongolia's rural adults.
