[Abstract]
[Objective]
This laboratory study aimed to investigate the influence of different surface pre-treatments on shear bond strength of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin luting agent to Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) block.
[Method]
50 PEEK (Shofu block PEEK, Shofu, Kyoto, Japan) adherents abraded with 50 μm Al2O3 (Cobra, Renfert, Hilzingen, Germany), were randomly divided, according to surface pre-treatments, into five groups (n=10), TBB: Butoxybutylborane (catalyst V, Sun Medical, Shiga, Japan) treatment, MMA: 4-META/MMA (monomer liquid, Sun Medical) treatment, MIX: 4-META/MMA-TBB (monomer liquid, and catalyst V, Sun Medical)treatment, and PZ: porcelain-zirconia primer (PZ primer, Sun Medical) treatment, while CON: no surface pre-treatments served as control group. Super-Bond (Sun Medical) was used as resin luting agent. Shear bond strength (SBS) was measured, and fractured surfaces were observed.
[Results and Discussion]
The highest SBS was recorded in MIX group (22.48 ± 4.05 MPa), followed by PZ group (23.55 ± 3.64 MPa), with a statistical significance, while TBB and MMA group exhibited the lowest mean SBS value (13.89± 1.69 MPa in TBB and 13.29 ± 3.01 MPa in MMA).
