[P3-0793] Validity of the incremental sit-to-stand exercise for evaluating the anaerobic threshold in healthy young persons
キーワード:sit-to-stand exercise, anaerobic threshold, healthy young
【Purpose】
We assessed the validity of physical capacity measurements during the sit-to-stand exercise(STSE), based on anaerobic thresholds(AT-VO2)during the STSE with and without arm support, and the cycle-ergometer(CE)test.
【Methods】
Twenty-six healthy, young individuals performed the incremental STSE and the CE test, in a randomized order. During the STSEs, the subjects stood up and sat down with or without their arms supported on the chair(the seat height matched the upper end of the participant’s fibula head). The incremental frequency increased from 6 to 36 times/min over a 12-min period. AT-VO2 values were determined during the STSEs and the CE test, which was performed using a ramp protocol. Repeated-measures analyses of variance, followed by the Tukey test, were used to evaluate differences between the AT-VO2 values during the STSEs(with or without arm support)and CE test. Pearson’s correlation test was also performed to analyze the AT-VO2 values during the STSEs(with or without arm support)and CE test.
【Results】
The AT-VO2 values during the STSE with arm support(18.5±1.9 mL/min/kg)and CE test results(18.4±1.8 mL/min/kg)were significantly higher than those during the STSE without arm support(16.6±1.8 mL/min/kg;P<0.05). The correlation of AT-VO2 values during the STSE with arm support and the CE test was r=0.77, whereas the correlation of the AT-VO2 values during the STSE without arm support and the CE test was r=0.70.
【Discussion】
The STSE with arm support may provide a cardiopulmonary function load equivalent to the CE test. Because the correlation between the AT-VO2 values during the STSE with arm support and the CE test was statistically significant and strong, the STSE with arm support is a potentially valid test for evaluating AT-VO2 in healthy young adults.
