[P3-0802] The effect verification of installing insoles for PTB user’s gait speed

キーワード:PTB orthosis, gait speed, insoles

【Purpose】
It is often reported insoles are effective for improving your gait speed. Though many studies recently have focused on insoles, there is no previous study which verifies the effect of insoles for PTB user. The purpose of this study is verifying the insole’s effect for PTB user.
【Methods】
The subject of the research is the man of 40 years old with the right calcaneal fracture and the left tibial fracture. The right has been treated with the Steinmann pin and the left with the Intramedullary nailing. It’d been 3 weeks since the surgery. Muscle strength was measured by MMT(R/L)and the results were as follows, MTP and IP joint flexion 5/4, MTP and IP joint extension 5/4. Main outcome measures are 10 meters gait speed, cadence, and stride length.
We took those data before, right after and after he started to wear insoles in his PTB, and adopted the mean value of three-times measurement. Insoles were put to the transverse arch.

【Results】
The results of each measurement are as follows(before→after), 10 meters gait speed:0.60m/sec→0.85m/sec, cadence:86.86→96.11, stride length:84cm→107cm.

【Discussion】
There were improvements in all the measurement after intervention. Hallucal area and foot fingers have high distribution density of mechanoreceptors. The function of these areas is normally hard to work because PTB has the flat base. The subject of this study could feel his feet touch the base of PTB clearly by putting insoles, which causes the increase of the intrinsic muscles’strength. Besides, the active touch let the sensory thresholds lower and promoted the feedback of the deep sensation, which results in the improvements of the gait speed.
Our study indicates installing insoles could increase the intrinsic muscles’strength and improve the gait speed, cadence, and stride length when you wear PTB.
