In today’s world, one of the major problems is handling and cleaning the wastewater polluted with organic compounds. Our main purpose is to prepare a visible-light driven photocatalyst with a facile method. Hematite (α-Fe2O3) is a suitable material, due to its photocatalytic properties, narrow bandgap of 2.2 eV, chemical stability, nontoxicity and natural availability. In this research iron-containing aluminosilicate glass samples with composition xFe2O3 • yAl2O3 • (100 – x – y) SiO2 abbreviated as xFyAS for photo-Fenton catalyst were prepared by a sol-gel method. The catalytic performance of the glass samples was evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue dye (MB), Rhodamine B dye aqueous solution (RhBaq) and simulated wastewater solution. The structure is characterized using 57Fe-Mössbauer spectroscopy (FeMS), Impedance spectroscopy (IS), and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–Vis). Furthermore, a relationship between the local structure and electrical conductivity properties of samples was investigated to detect new aspects of alumina addition to the glass samples.
