The purpose of this research is development of a support system for documentation of under-resourced languages. Specically, we aim at the automatic transcription of speech to reduce the time linguists need to transcribe recorded speech. In this paper, we focus on correspondence of phonemes between two languages. In the experiment, we examined correspondence between English phonetic symbols and Japanese syllables. One result found was that partial similarity of the phonemic waveforms shows the correspondence between two languages.
