[1G4-ES-5-04] Development and evaluation of an adaptive auxiliary problem presentation system based on learner's error tendency in Error-based Simulation
Keywords:Elementary mechanics, Learning support system, Error-based Simulation, Problem Simplification
Error-based Simulation: EBS is an effective system to support learners’ trial-and-error in elementary mechanics learning. Even though, learners often stuck in the impasse because EBS does not provide the correct answer. To break the impasse, it is effective that it presents auxiliary problems to learners stepwise. The auxiliary problem is a simplification of the original problem by reducing the learning concepts. The auxiliary problem scaffolds the learner and supports to solve the original problem. In this paper, we developed a learning support system that presents auxiliary problems adaptively by analyzing the concepts that the learner cannot understand based on the learner's error tendency. Then, the auxiliary problem presentation function was improved by examining and expanding the sequence of auxiliary problems based on causal inference. Then, the auxiliary problem presentation function was evaluated. The score of test was improved by presenting the auxiliary problems, and the result of the questionnaire suggests that the learners accepted our system as effective mechanics learning support system.
