[1O5-GS-4-01] Development of an Information Retrieval System for Biological-resource Using Semantic Technologies.
Keywords:Bioresources, SPARQL, Linked Data
To disseminate information on biological resources which are used as experimental materials for biomedical studies, we developed a semantic-web based database system for bioresources in RIKEN BioResource Research Center which is one of the international repositories of biological resources for mice, plants, cell lines, genetic materials, and microbes. We developed a data conversion pipeline and a Web-based data retrieval software application. In the data conversion pipeline, we implemented a tool to support mapping rules from original relational databases and texts. According to the mapping data, original data are regularly converted into Resource Description Framework. In the Web-based data, all the bioresources can be retrieved from single search window on the homepage across species and type of bioresource. By linking to Ensembl RDF data, resources can be searched by gene symbols including orthologous genes. We plan to expand to integrate other useful information such as disease-gene association in future.
