[2E4-OS-1a-04] Mutations and selections in the evolution of the web
Keywords:web, SNS, evolution, artificial life
The World Wide Web (Web) has developed through changes reflecting in- and outside of Web. The purpose of the present study is to characterize this development of Web by analogy to biological evolution. For example, this study focuses on mutations and selections that correspond to temporal changes in the hashtag usage on a social network service RoomClip. Our analysis suggests that the majority of hashtag combinations are reuses of preexisting combinations due to biased selection on hashtags, and changes in those combinations are relatively rare. This manner of change in the hashtag usage resembles biological evolution in which selections result in certain forms of trait passed generations to generations and mutation rate is limited to low.
