[2G4-ES-4-02] Situated Agents, Personality and Human-Centric AI
Keywords:HRI, AI, gaze
The paper discusses social robots and situated human-robot interaction in real-world environments, where the robots can communicate with humans in natural language. Such agents can make important contributions to everyday life acting as instructors, companions, and assistants, provide solutions for societal problems by expanding opportunities for human well-being. An important aspect in their acceptability is their ability to understand the partner’s particular dialogue strategy to express their needs, and for this, we explore how the partner’s personality traits can be effectively used to detect and understand suitable ways to react. The paper also presents the notion of Boundary-Crossing Robot as a novel way to conceptualize interactions with social robots in human-centric AI, crossing boundaries between computational machines and human-like social beings.
