The purpose of this study is to construct a method of realizing knowledge that the people concerned are not aware of about the relationship between humans, the environment, and artifacts embedded in traditional techniques and methods of building vernacular architecture. Which is rooted in the climate, and is considered to exist in the depths of living space.

In this paper, we will discuss how to conduct continuous research and explore ways to study in the field of traditional villages in remote islands in the Ryukyus and of an ethnic minority in the mountains area of Southeast Asia. The "thick reality" of the village life directly constitutes the "living" space of the folk house or village. To record and write this, the authors are experimenting with a variety of inquiries and methods; visit the village repeatedly, eat and drink together, rent a house and stay for a long period, participate in events and rituals, build dry stone walls in settlements, and develop bullrings. In mountain villages in Southeast Asia, a Japanese who has the name of the Hmong, the ethnic group, and speak their language, supplement the understanding of their life and culture as well as language.

This kind of inquiry is examined from the viewpoint of constructing a methodology for investigating "vernacular knowledge".
