The new method of three-dimensional foot shape analysis using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) based on the spherical coordinate system (SCS) is proposed. In this method, the cloud of points on the surface of three-dimensional foot shape is transformed into SCS and they are replaced as the vectors including each length and direction. The features of each three-dimensional foot shape can be expressed using only these vectors length because all vector directions are common among all foot shapes. For the purpose of the reduction of shape parameters and the analysis of three-dimensional shape variance, PCA is conducted. As the result of this analysis, it is revealed that over 90% foot shape is accurately reconstructed.
