The ethical, legal, and social challenges involved in the use of profiling services for recruitment are the focus of many previous studies; however, it depending on the social structure. In August 2019, a scandal occurred in Japan in which a recruitment management company was found to have breached students’ trust by selling their data to clients. Students are in a vulnerable position, and therefore, the analyzer and the client companies should recognize the power structure. By sharing the Japanese recruitment context, this article contributes to our understanding of the ethical issues involved in profiling and scoring. It also introduces several countermeasures such as check list for developers, the principals on HR data utilization and educational game as a communication tool.
