[3B3-GS-11-01] The Impact of AI and Transparency on People's Trust in the Courts
Keywords:Trust, Trial, Transparency
The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that reduce people's trust in AI-based trials. In recent years, there has been a shortage of judges and budgets, and this has come at the expense of users' satisfaction. In order to solve these problems, the use of AI in court is expected.
However, AI suffers from a black box problem. This is partly due to the unreliability of the algorithms, which raises questions about the use of AI in court. In this study, we conducted a survey experiment to investigate whether the existence of transparency affects the trustworthiness of (AI) judges. We also investigated the impact of errors in judgment on trustworthiness. From the results of the experiment, we examine whether people trust AI or transparency more. This study provides implications for research and efforts to use AI in the courtroom.
