[3Xin4-37] A dialogue system using digging questions for Japanese Katakana acquisition
Keywords:Japanese learning, Japanese Katakana, dialogue system, education application
Japanese Katakana acquisition is difficult for Japanese-language learners. In this study, we focused on Japanese Katakana acquisition, and built a dialogue system to support Japanese-language learners. The system will pose a question containing a Kana word in the beginning of the conversation, then ask digging questions in response to the user's input. Our first purpose is to make learners understand and be able to use Kana by using the system. Our second purpose is to improve learners’ confidence in their speaking skills by talking with the system. Evaluation has conducted under the control conditions of the experiment. As a result, although it was not concluded that the proposed method was better, it was suggested that learners who were satisfied with the system had more positive impressions and were more likely to perceive growth in their speaking skills.
