[4Q3-OS-14-01] Robotic Platform for Research on AI for Science
Keywords:Robots, Scientific experiments, Tele-manipulation
With the aim of developing "AI robot scientists" by 2050 that will collaborate with human scientists to explore science with capabilities different from those of human scientists, we are developing and integrating (1) robotic bodies whose physical capabilities are different from those of humans, and (1) AI that handles explicit knowledge to formulate experimental hypotheses from the interpretation of experimental results, (2) AI that handles implicit knowledge to formulate manipulation strategies from the interpretation of experimental manipulation, and (4) mathematical foundations common to (2) and (3). We are working with scientists using examples from actual experiments. In this paper, we report on the development of a robot platform as an open research platform for AI for Science.
