Keywords:Ontology, Knowledge graph, Data integration, Lifescience data, Semantic web

The RIKEN Bioresource Research Center manages information on RIKEN bioresources such as experimental mice, plants, cells, DNA materials, and microorganisms’ strains used for experimental research using Semantic Web Technology, including Resource Description Framework and ontology. One of the missions is to provide bioresources related to the production of chemicals with specific roles or biological activities to the researchers who are elucidating the biological mechanisms and breeding crops or microorganisms. This study integrated the bioresource RDF data with external public RDF datasets, such as UniProt, Rhea, ChEBI, KNApSAcK, and Gene Ontology, to develop a knowledge graph containing paths connecting bioresources and chemical roles or bioactivities. Consequently, by performing SPARQL queries, the knowledge graph has enabled providing information on bioresources relevant to the specific chemical roles (e.g., anti-inflammatory agent) or bioactivities (e.g., induce flowering) to the experimental researchers.
