This article provides information about the change of onomatopoetic words when translating texts fron Russian to English. At the beginning of the study, it is explained what onomatopoeia is and what functions it perfoms. After that, there is a partical part, where the translation of onomatopoetic words from Russian to English. The work of Russian authors as I. Bunin, A. Akhmatova, A. Blok and others are taken as examples.
