[2O1-GS-10-04] Ways for Illustrators to Utilize Generative AI

With the widespread use of generative image AI, its utilization as well as ethical issues are important concerns for illustrators. This study examines concrete ways to effectively utilize generative AI to draw images, while taking into account the current state of issues related to generative AI.
First, we generated portraits with generative image AI and compared them with portraits the first author had drawn to understand the current status of generative image AI. Next, we conducted questionnaires and interviews with the illustrators in which we learned about their perceptions of AI and examined the direction of generative AI utilization. Based on the results, we worked on the design of an AI model and verified the image generation experience.
This study reveals that an AI model that reflects the characteristics of the illustrator's works can be used in a variety of ways and has a number of benefits for the illustrator.
