[13a-2A-1] [Young Scientist Presentation Award Speech] Spontaneous Formation of Gratings with Dynamic Photoirradiation
Keywords:photopolymerization,grating,molecular alignment
In recent years, many groups have been engaged in research and development related to soft materials for various applications. Control of molecular alignment is important to functionalize soft materials. The existing molecular alignment processes are mechanical alignment such as stretching or rubbing treatment, and photoalignment with photoreactive molecules. These processes are widely investigated but have some problems of contamination of dust in rubbing and necessity of high intensity polarized light in photoalignment. We have recently found that anisotropic monomers are aligned through photopolymerization with moving light. In this procedure, we also found that a periodic structure was formed spontaneously in the obtained polymer film. In this study, we fabricated gratings by dynamic photopolymerization process. We evaluated the alignment behavior of the films with a polarized optical microscope and examined optical property of the gratings by the observation of diffracted light.
