[13a-2A-3] Expansion of Deflection Angle with Fresnel Liquid Crystal Deflector
Keywords:liquid crystal,deflector,optical image stabilization
We have applied our fine control technologies of optical wave-front of conventional liquid crystal lens to a tunable optical deflector, and try to expand the deflection angle without making the layer thickness of the liquid crystal increased. Then, we have carried out some electro-magnetic simulations and achieved a saw-tooth distribution of electrical potential in the liquid crystal material with only flat glasses by using interdigitated array electrode, high-resistivity thin film layer and also originated insulator gaps below the boundary of the electrodes. According to this simulation result, we manufactured a Fresnel type of liquid crystal wedge prism and observed interference fringes between crossed polarizers by micro scope. As a result, an obtained deflection angle was significantly expanded to get to the possible level for the application of optical image stabilization in micro camera without any moving parts.
