[13p-2D-4] Numerical simulation of the diode pumped alkali laser (DPAL)

Diode pumped Alkali Laser (DPAL) is an optically pumped gas laser. It is highly efficient by virtue of the diode pump, and highly scalable with good beam quality thanks to the nature of the gas laser. We have developed a numerical simulation code of DPAL oscillation combining the wave optics model and photon/atom rate equations. The propagation of the light field is modeled by the Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction integral, and it is coupled with a three-dimensional rate equation model. We observed a good agreement of the calculations with experimental results under various operational conditions.
