[13p-4A-10] Superconductivity in a new AuCu3-type compound of LaBi3

We have carried out a search for new superconductors on the basis of Matthias's rule. Consequently, we have succeeded in synthesizing a new superconductor, LaBi3. There is no LaBi3 phase in the La-Bi phase diagram at ambient pressure so that samples are obtained by high-pressure synthesis. Resistivity measurements show that the superconducting transition temperature of LaBi3 is 7.3 K. We will present about details of sample preparation, the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, and ab-initio electronic band structure calculations.
