[13p-4A-10] Superconductivity in a new AuCu₃-type compound of LaBi₃

We have carried out a search for new superconductors on the basis of Matthias's rule. Consequently, we have succeeded in synthesizing a new superconductor, LaBi₃. There is no LaBi₃ phase in the La-Bi phase diagram at ambient pressure so that samples are obtained by high-pressure synthesis. Resistivity measurements show that the superconducting transition temperature of LaBi₃ is 7.3 K. We will present about details of sample preparation, the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, and ab-initio electronic band structure calculations.
