[13p-4F-9] Novel Synthesis Method for Silicon@Monodispersed Mesoporous Carbon Spheres

Liquid silicon precursor is used as a silicon source and very simple and easy method for the fabrication of Si/mesoporous carobon composite is presented. By using capillary condensation, Cyclopentasilane, CPS penetrates into mesopores of carbon spheres homogeneously and subsequent heating brings the formation of silicone inside mesochannels of carbons through a particle. The homogeneous distribution is verified by EDX mapping of the composite as well as SEM observation of the calcined one. More than 45 wt% of Si can be incorporated into mesopores by just one operation. Si/mesoporous carbon composite works as an anode for a Lithium ion battery. The initial capacitance is about 2200 mAh/g. However, this value can be largely improved by optimizing the amount of incorporated Si, pore diameter, and particle diameter of mesoporous carbon spheres.
