Surface modification is the chemistry enhancement of the surface properties to provide the platform for binding the bio-receptors and analytes in order to meet specific requirements for biological applications. In the biosensor application, modification of surface with silane coupling agents is well established and the straightforward way to immobilize the biomolecules. However, there are still remaining issues that need to be addressed for the reproducibility in the formation of the terminated-silane monolayer. The process to prepare the surface with the same properties, such as stability, uniformity and high density of terminated-silane monolayer surface, is a really challenging task. In this study, we investigate on how to fabricate the uniform and density controlled surface using different modulation methods, solution or vapor phase deposition for immobilization process.
